About us
Zëri Ynë - Our Voice brings the Albanian community together to share stories, support each other and speak up on the issues that shape our lives.
Our mission
A space built by the community, for the community.
We believe that when every voice is heard, families, neighborhoods and the whole community grow stronger.
Zëri Ynë is a non-profit organization and a public charity. We exist to serve the community, not to make a profit.
Our history
It started with a few women and a shared hometown.
Zëri Ynë began in the early 2000s, when a group of Albanian women on Staten Island, New York, came together as a community. Most of them were from Dibra.
It was started by Leunora Abdullai, an immigrant who is now a teacher, together with other women from her hometown. Her goal was to keep the Albanian community together and to help one another as immigrants. What began with a few women has grown into the community organization we are today.
What we do
Three ways we raise our voice.
Community
We connect people across generations and places, so nobody has to carry things alone.
Awareness
We talk openly about the topics that matter to our community and push for change.
Our name
Zëri Ynë means “Our Voice” in Albanian: one voice shared by many people, stronger when it is heard together.
